A MALE nurse from Chizvirizvi Health Center, under Chief Tshovani in Chiredzi who f.ondled a pregnant patient’s c.litoris while pretending to be carrying out a medical checkup has been sentenced to 8 years in prison.
Believe Mauswa, 43, pleaded not guilty to aggravated indecent assault charges when he appeared before a Masvingo regional magistrate, Judith Zuyu.
He was however, convicted after a state witness Joel Siduna, a nurse and Mauswa’s superior, told the court that the process that Mauswa used for antenatal test was wrong.
The witness told the court that Mauswa was only supposed to take blood samples from the patient by pricking her finger and to get her to urinate in a container for a urinalysis test.
Prosecuting, Moreblessing Rusere told the court that on 5 December 2015, around 1200hrs, Blessing Kurivale went to Chizvirizvi Health Centre for pregnancy checkup.

The accused took cotton wool and inserted it into the complainant privates, rolling until it became wet.
He then went on to fondle Blessing’s c.litoris which prompted her to ask what kind of test was being done on her.
Blessing proceeded to make a report to other nurses on the manner in which she was treated by the male nurse and a formal police report was filed.
In passing judgement, magistrate Zuyu said nurses, especially those working in rural areas, should assist people with proper medical assistance and should not be convicted on such crimes.
The magistrate initially sentenced Mauswa to 13 years behind bars but suspended five years on condition on good behavior leaving him to effectively spend 8 years in prison.
