Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe (Bofoz) has abolished first and second runner-up places in the wake of the recent conviction of second princess Mercy Kamanura for stealing a jumpsuit at Edgars.

Kamanura ,24, was sentenced on Friday and was given the option of either paying an $80 fine or spending two months in prison.

The jumpsuit was valued at $40.

Bofoz spokesperson Tanaka Ngorora told the Daily News yesterday that they had already decided to abolish the first and second runner-up places even though they will only be able to deliberate on Kamanura’s case in January.

“We have shut down. We will see in January. I haven’t sat down with the team. We were waiting for the courts to finish the case; now that they have, we can sit down and discuss her fate in January as we have already closed for the holidays.

“There won’t be a first and second runner-up anymore because of what happened to Mercy. Besides the Mercy issue, we also want to give back to the voters. Last year, people were complaining that they spent a lot of money voting but they never got anything. Voters will stand to win a car,” said Ngorora.

The Kamanura conviction has also forced Bofoz to revise the contract they enter into with contestants.

On their website, they added another clause in response to the farce.

“Entries, qualified contestants and winners are liable for disqualification punishable by title and prize revocation when you do not sign the Brand Ambassador Contract, put the Black Opal Brand into any form of disrepute including but not limited to, leaked nude pictures of yourself, controversial conflicts with our stakeholders, failure to disclose past convictions by any court of law or any other past or future action that may put the Black Opal Brand into disrepute by its association with you,” reads the new clause.
